About Koh Sdach

Located in the Gulf of Thailand and sitting only 1.5 kilometres from the coast of Botum Sakor National Park lies one of Cambodia’s stunning islands due for touristic development.

Of Cambodia’s archipelago of 12 islands, Koh Sdach is the most populated with over 3000 residents and the only island to have its own village.

Already with a steady flow of tourists during the high season from Sihanoukville and Sre Ambil, this picturesque island is the perfect getaway for tourists looking for a relaxing and intensely beautiful experience.

The island is famed amongst Khmers for its expert fishermen, as the island is a haven for multiple marine species. Roughly 70 per cent of the community are fishermen; the others run small businesses and farming, with much of the fishermen’s catch exported to Thailand.

The fishing village stretches along the island’s eastern side, where you will find traditional Khmer houses built on stilts.

There are rocky beach areas on Koh Sdach, but Australia beach and coconut beach already have small resorts and bungalows to accommodate the crowds of tourists the island is now starting to see.

This island is a paradise with azure blue waters, abundant marine life, and technicoloured coral; scuba divers and snorkelers are stunned at its beauty.

Over the coming years, we see Koh Sdach becoming one of the South Asia basins most sought after snorkelling and scuba diving locations.

Why is it Called King’s Island?

Legend has it that a king once commanded an army on the island, but due to there being no freshwater for his soldiers, he went to search by himself to save his men.

He finally came across a rock near to the sea. The king drew his sword, split the rock in half, and released an endless flow of water that saved his men and is still used by the island’s local people to this day.
